I was recently conducting a workshop on stress management. One of the tools I taught was deep breathing and how this simple act can help you become more resilient in the face of stress.
We all experience stress in our daily lives. It's what we do to manage and minimize the stress that makes the difference to our health.
Our immune system is severely compromised when we are constantly in a state of stress. Ever experience catching colds and the flu more often when you are really stressed in your life? The immune system is suppressed when it experiences stress consistently with no release, therefore we become more susceptible to illnesses.
The simple exercise of consciously breathing can help you better manage your stress and bring you back to a feeling of being in control and keep you in a better state of wellness.
Deep Breathing 101
Here is a simple deep breathing technique that will help place you in a peaceful, meditative state.
Continue for five to ten minutes then open your eyes and sit or lie there for a moment.
Deep breathing and meditation can calm your body and mind leaving you revitalized, refreshed and energized.
You can do this at your desk, at home on a yoga mat, or in your car (just joking)!!!
Even a few deep cleansing breaths will help immensely!
