Summer is in full swing. You're enjoying the good weather, breaking out your summer clothes, sitting on patios, and taking it all in. Maybe you're camping or taking a trip.
Whatever you are doing this summer, don't forget your health goals. It's so easy to fall off the wagon when you lose your daily routine.
Stay Active on Vacation
You have every reason to want to put your feet up and take a break. But good health is a lifestyle - it doesn't take a break.
Make sure to pack your runners. The easiest thing you can do to stay active is get out for a walk or hike. It's also a great way to get to know the area you are visiting. If you are close to a pool, lake, or ocean, get swimming (hopefully you packed your bathing suit).
Get creative. I often pack an exercise band and a skipping rope so I can exercise even in a small hotel room. Whatever you do, do it for at least 30 minutes a day. I know that you will be a lot happier when you get back home and step on the scale :)
Eat Well on Vacation
You may be tempted to let loose on vacation and eat whatever, whenever. With a little bit of planning you can keep to a pretty good nutrition plan even while away from home. Look for a local grocery store where you can buy fresh fruit, raw veggies and nuts for snacks. You can also pick up some boiled eggs or enjoy a fresh salad. If you are not close to a grocery store, most gas stations and convenience stores carry apples, bananas, nuts and other healthy snacks like yogourt.
When at a restaurant, order a salad with dressing on the side, chicken breast or fish and steamed vegetables. You can do this.
Sleep Well on Vacation
The cornerstone for maintaining good health, is getting a good night's sleep. If you have traveled to a different time zone, the best thing you can do is quickly adopt that new time. Forget about what time it is back home. If you normally go to bed at 10:30, then go to bed at the same time in this time zone. The sooner you get used to the new time, the better chance you will have of resting well and waking up full of energy for the day.
Let's enjoy the rest of summer and always remember to eat well - stay active - live happy and enjoy a healthy body for life...even on vacation :)
