DAY 2 of the 30 DAYS OF HEALTHY HABITS:
Dark green leafy vegetables are bursting with nutrients and disease-fighting antioxidants. They are naturally low in calories and high in fibre. Make a big salad and include some leafy greens such as romaine, spinach, kale, arugula. Get creative and make it colourful by adding other delicious raw vegetables as well. And make your own salad dressing. This way you are in control of the ingredients and the caloric content.
Here is a basic recipe:
To create a different flavour, add:
1 tsp. Italian seasoning
1 tsp. minced garlic
For a creamier dressing, add:
2 tbsp. plain yogourt or 1 tsp. prepared mustard
Healthy Habit: Make a very big salad that will feed the family and will also leave you with enough for a lunchtime salad the following day. If you are strapped for time, you can pick up a bagged salad from the grocery store.
