"Look at a stone cutter hammering away at his rock, perhaps a hundred times without as much as a crack showing in it. Yet at the hundred-and-first blow it will split in two, and I know it was not the last blow that did it, but all that had gone before."
~ Jacob Riis
This quote came to mind today as I was working out in the gym - it creates an image of PERSISTENCE!
I lift weights 3 to 4 times a week and I keep a record of what I did and how much I lifted. This helps me visualize the next workout. Before I get to the gym I have envisioned being stronger than the previous time.
Today, PERSISTENCE was rewarded. Everything I lifted felt easier. So I added more weight and even that was easily lifted.
People who weight train know that an increase of 10 to 15 lbs on a lift is HUGE!
This progress made me teary-eyed. It helped re-affirm to me that persistence pays off.
What a great metaphor for life. Things don't always come easily. Do we give up or do we persist like the stone cutter?
With PERSISTENCE, we can look forward to a tomorrow where the breakthrough finally happens - when the stone finally splits!
Whatever your goals may be - STAY PERSISTENT!
