Day 20 of the 30 Days of Healthy Habits: Eat More Fibre
Dietary fibre is found in vegetables and fruits, all grains, nuts and seeds, and in beans and lentils.
Eating fibrous foods is important for overall health, especially digestive health; fibre acts as a scrub brush for the digestive tract. The recommended amount of fibre women should obtain from their diet is at least 25 grams per day. What does that look like? For example, a large apple contains 5 grams of dietary fibre.
Studies show that our modern diet does not include enough dietary fibre. Despite the recommendation that we increase our daily fibre intake, many of us are afraid that this may cause digestive discomfort and bloating.
Here are some practical suggestions on how to increase your intake without experiencing uncomfortable symptoms.
